Regg (Ceiling) Chair By Lattoog

Perhaps the most genuine of the Brazilian furniture as the hammock takes its roots in South American indigenous cultures, originally made out of jungle vine and other fibres. With the arrival of the first Portuguese settlers, the new immigrant’s women adopted the techniques used by the natives and went on to make the hammock out of cotton enabling the new hammock to be embroidered and fringed. Now, centuries after Brazil’s colonisation, we wish to present this piece, which explores the concept of miscegenation and syncretism, the result of the very process of colonisation. Here the hammock is displayed next to the famous 1958 Arne Jacobsen armchair in order to highlight the pieces iconographic qualities. Exploring the possible relations between the hammock and different architectural surroundings, the dependency of an auxiliary support such as a ceiling with the airy lightness of being suspended above the ground. The roof support strap is stainless steel with adjustable length.This piece is also presented in the version attached to the wall.
