We see inherent connections between chandeliers and automata. Chandeliers are often used to receive and inspire guests, in the past, automata were also used to instil wonder in visitors or viewers via a practical device; the first automatic gates at the temple of Alexandria; the invention of the Chinese mechanical clock; or the astronomical clock in Prague, the oldest still operating in the world.
